This last quarter we welcomed three new Full Members:
Zoe Rogers – Rive Grange British White Stud.
Zoe hails from Burradoo near Bowral in the Southern Highlands of NSW.
She is new to cattle farming and breeding so purchased 3 cows from Katie Jagger’s Lallylee stud which is renowned for its quiet, well-bred, British Whites. The breed’s quiet temperament and attractive appearance were key to Zoe’s decision to breed British White cattle on her hobby farm.
Pixie Irving and Stewart Ferguson– Ivanhoe British White Stud
Pixie & Stewart are our first new members from South Australia since Ian & Sue Car in 2021 so it is terrific to welcome them to the Society. They have around 80 acres at Kersbrook in SA. Pixie is no stranger to cattle breeding having bred and shown Charolais cattle for many years. She also breeds horses.
Pixie and Stewart purchased 3 heifers from Alan & Susan Yates (Talpara Stud) as the start of their British White journey. Pixie says she was drawn to British Whites because of their rarity, appearance and temperament.
Michael Letters – Brigalow Park British White Stud
Michael farms at The Summit in the Granite Belt area of QLD.
Michael has farmed at scale and run businesses in the Granite Belt area of Qld for many years running Santa Gertrudis crossed with Angus and/or Hereford depending on market specifications. He has now purchased a smaller property (300 acres) to run a commercial herd and establish his new British White stud.
Michael says he was drawn to the breed because of their docile temperament, preservation story and foraging reputation. He expects to run around 40 cow calf units. To get things started he has sourced 10 head comprising younger British White females and a bull from breeders within easy transport distances of his property. Purchasing stock from Vale Hill, Mikkelbrae, Eltham Vale and HydeHill studs.
Obtaining quality AP, 60 Chromosome, quiet cattle from a variety of genetic lines was his focus and he says the “find members” map on the website and assistance from members he contacted very helpful in putting his herd together.
